Succulents and Spaghetti Jars

I'm sure this concept isn't new.

Not at all.

But this is my take on it.

I love Classico brand sauces.

Mostly because I love the Mason Jars they come in!

   Here is one in my Eggplant Parmesan Recipe! 

I thoroughly wash the jars inside and out.

Using a bristle brush in circular motions to remove the label.

For the silver look, I spray 2 thin coats of Krylon's Mirror Like Glass spray paint. 

It dries quickly and finishes beautifully.

 Succulents are super hardy and come in so many shapes and colors. 

I filled my jars 2/3 full with loose rocks and then the rest with a moisture control potting soil.

Then transplanted my succulents, roots and all, adding water.

At first, they need a good bit of water to stabilize.

After that, water when soil is completely dry, once a week or so.  

    In my jars I have:

Elephant Plant (learn more here)-the tall center

Blue Giant-the blue star

Sedum Album-small vines

Echeveria colorata-the red star

Another great way to repurpose the jars is to paint the inside.

   I used some latex in this one and just swirled it around until coated.

It gives it a lovely color while maintaining the glassy shine.

And just for fun:

 Did you know you can grow new leaves from store bought lettuce?

Just cut the bottom off about 1.5 inches and place in water.

The leafy lettuce above is about 1 week of growth.

  My kids picked wildflowers on the walk home from the bus stop.

Aren't they sweet?
